VIew Wisdom Wednesday SPECIAL NOTICE FOR MASSES DURING BREAK AND OUR CHRISTMAS EVE MASS During this Advent season of waiting and preparing for the Lord to come again into the world and into our hearts, despite the many challenges this year, there is still much to be grateful for. We know that Christmas will be different this year and yet the same love that comes into the world through Christ will be available to us again this Christmas – no pandemic can prevent that. After much discernment and consultation with WashU and the Archdiocese, the CSC has decided to only offer Christmas Eve Mass virtually. Although this semester the CSC has been offering in-person Sunday Mass at 25% capacity, with COVID cases surging and the desire of many who want to gather on Christmas Eve, we believe it is our responsibility to discourage large gatherings—even on Christmas Eve. Even though we won’t be gathering in person the Lord calls out to us to make space in our lives to receive love and to help bring that love into the world. The CSC can still help you do that as you gather in your homes through a very prayerful and festive virtual celebration of the Mass. We encourage you to gather with your families united across the country in prayer on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. We will still make the experience unique, and you will be able to sing as loud as you want, joining our choir, in our traditional Christmas Eve songs. As St. Augustine said, singing is praying twice! Mass will go live Christmas Eve afternoon by 3:30pm Central time and will be available on our YouTube channel after that through Christmas Day and beyond. Students will be away from campus from December 18 through mid-January and with the virus predicted to continue to surge, the CSC will only offer virtual Mass starting on December 20, the 4th Sunday of Advent. The restart of in-person Mass will begin with the 11:00 a.m. Mass on January 17. Both the 11:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. will resume in person on Sunday, January 25. Please keep our students in your prayers as we keep you and them in our prayers as well. The CSC wishes you a Blessed Advent and a Merry Christmas! The CSC has been my happy place at college. Whenever I was stressed, homesick, or in need of a hug, I knew that I could always walk over to the CSC and get all the love that I needed. It’s definitely my favorite place on campus, and I don’t know what my world at Wash U would look like without it. Maria Ahern, Class of '17 The CSC has been, for me, a place to experience deeper relationships and more substantial conversations. I’ve joined an amazing community here that has become a family from which I can expect challenge and support as well as constant playful teasing. Seth Akakpo-Lado, Class of '19 Finding this community was so important to me because, as a result, I now have some of the closest friendships that I have ever had and am surrounded by people I know will support me through almost anything. Alexis Pinzon, Class of '20 Going to the 9pm Sunday Mass leaves me with enough warmth and good will to last an entire week of classes! Because of the Sunday Mass, and the peers and role models I met at the CSC, in one year I thought more actively about living my faith than I had the entire rest of my life. Marina Mai, Class of '16 The CSC has been a home away from home for me. I feel so incredibly loved and supported while I am here. Whether it is studying between classes, Sunday mass, service trips, or socializing, the CSC has always been able to present me new opportunities to grow in faith and life.
